“I Want to Be Part of What’s Possible”

LA-native Kyndra Leach moved to the San Diego area prior to having kids. As she and her husband looked to the future and realized The Bishop’s School was the next great fit for their family, Leach recalls, “We made our way south.” Settled in La Jolla, it was natural for her to become involved in her children’s school. “I was raised in an environment where my parents were always super involved with our activities and our schools,” she says. “I like to be part of a community, and I like to be an example for my kids that giving back is important. It should come full circle that you give as others have given to you.”
As a volunteer leader for other organizations, Leach brought significant experience with her to Bishop’s where she’s now the parent of one alum, Jaxon ’24, and two current students, Cutter ’27 and Charlotte ’30. Currently the advisory parent for her son’s class and co-advisory parent for her daughter’s, Leach is also the president of the Knights Booster Group. All three of her children will have been through the Bishop’s celebrated water polo program by the time they graduate, with Jaxon currently playing for Pepperdine University.
“I like to be part of a community, and I like to be an example for my kids that giving back is important.”
After eight years at Bishop’s, Leach is energized and ready to help take the School into the future as a co-chair of the Lead with Purpose campaign. “I really think it’s the right time,” she explains. “I think we have something very special at The Bishop’s School. I wouldn’t want my kids to be anywhere else.”
When she considers the School’s evolution, she says “I can envision what’s possible, and I want to be part of that. It’s very satisfying to see and help change happen. I’ve got friends in all different parts of the School, so I feel like I can be a connector to motivate people to join in.” She highlights the need to ensure that all the teachers, coaches, administrators and staff who make Bishop’s excellent are being paid at industry standards. “That’s such an important part of attracting and retaining fantastic faculty and administrators and coaches,” she notes.
Having said that, she is quick to emphasize that this campaign is about far more than any single funding goal or the size of any single gift. “This campaign is for everyone around us, and anyone can be a part of it,” she says. “It’s about being a community that wants to move forward.”
