Schoolwide Well-Being
Create Greater Capacity for Achievement
Bishop’s is ready to prepare our students to go even farther in their learning and growth. We know that a foundation of well-being is the best way to equip them to reach their potential (in any arena) and pursue lives of greater purpose. As we implement a holistic approach that our students need now, we also create models that we hope will help students nationally and beyond.
Invest in National Expertise
Our aspiration is to endow two new permanent positions. Each will be a skilled practitioner and collaborator, ready to help implement a landmark program.
Director of Well-Being
Bishop’s has made important progress over the last decade as an early innovator when it comes to well-being. Now, the director will help bring our programs to a premier level, integrating prevention, education, intervention and applied research in a way that is cohesive and across our campus and community.
Optimal Performance Psychologist
Based in the Wu Tsai Field House, this practitioner will work with athletes or any interested student to elevate performance, whether in athletics, performing arts or other fields. They will focus on mental training, goal-setting, coping with setbacks and other topics at the nexus of well-being and results.
Head of School Ron Kim speaks about the origins of his vision for well-being.
What Do We Mean by Well-Being?
At Bishop’s, we define well-being in ways that are strongly connected to our core identity, including high academic aspirations, caring community and our Episcopal values. For us, well-being has four components: emotional stability and satisfaction; meaningful relationships and connection; physical health and wellness; and spiritual belief.
“Our approach to well-being mirrors our approach to education. Bishop’s is rooted in the human condition, and we believe the best learning happens within trusted personal connections — between teachers and students and across our community. In these relationships, young people develop their strength and sense of purpose.”
