Performing Arts
Expand the Boundaries of Creative Expression
Science has long confirmed the arts as a proving ground for confidence, self-expression and creative problem-solving. The arts also help students find balance and grow into well-rounded individuals. A new Performing Arts Center will enable serious performers — and all Bishop’s students — to expand their creative frontiers.
The Site of Stellar Performances
In the proposed Center, we will uphold our exemplary performing arts program, which has significantly outgrown its current facilities. Here, a flexible performance venue for theater, technical theater and design, dance, choir and instrumental music will give our ambitious performers the best-in-class space and equipment they need.
A Hub for Interdisciplinary Collaboration
The Center will also generate exceptional opportunities for creativity across departments. With sound mixing, LED walls, green screens and motion capture, the proposed studio space welcomes the sciences, humanities and visual arts to come explore! These partnerships will spark epiphanies for everyone.
Dr. Kristen Tregar, performing arts department chair, describes the anticipated new Center.
A Vibrant Space for All
Multipurpose function and flexibility will be the hallmark of the new Center. Among the energizing, welcoming elements will be:
- Soundstage studio for film, theater, music and dance, equipped with a sprung floor
- Upstairs studio that doubles as an ocean-view community space
- Green screen for motion capture moviemaking
- Increased room for classes, rehearsals, film screenings and more
- Convenient location adjacent to the existing black box theater and choral room.
Together the new and existing buildings create a revitalized performing arts corridor along the north edge of campus!
